Let’s talk politics for a moment. I’m sure the world has witnessed the trouble that’s been brewing in Thailand these past two months. Bangkok, primarily, has been hit hard by a string of protest rallies by a group of political insurgents known simply as the “Reds”. They represent the poor while the group known as the “Yellows” represent mostly the ruling elite. They exist because those in power want to keep their control while those who are not are trying to get a piece of the pie. Simply put, the country is divided. I myself have witnessed the bus burning, the riots and the military up close and personal. I can tell you this, the “Reds” agenda is no joke. I’ve been to their camp many times and their constant rhetoric on political reforms, coupled with their dedication to disrupt society in order to be heard gives their supporters a sense of purpose. Tourists beware, lately the ‘land of smiles’ can feel more like the land of ’smiles and cries’.
